Abstract

This study examines the relevance of the story of the Prophet Abraham in the Qur'an as an ethical-theological basis for building harmonious and tolerant interfaith relations in the context of pluralistic Indonesian society. In the Qur'an, the Prophet Abraham is presented not only as a figure of monotheism but also as an example of polite and civilized interfaith dialogue. This study uses a qualitative approach through library research using the thematic interpretation method (maudhū‘i), as well as micro and macro analyses of relevant verses such as Surah Maryam (19):42–45, Al-Baqarah (2):124–130, and Al-Mumtahanah (60):4. The results show that the Prophet Abraham prioritized the principles of da'wah based on compassion, rationality, and respect for differences. These values can be integrated into strengthening religious moderation, interfaith dialogue, and tolerance education in Indonesia. This contextual interpretation of the story of Abraham also serves as a critique of exclusive religious approaches that are inconsistent with the spirit of nationalism. Thus, the story of Prophet Abraham can serve as a spiritual and social foundation for strengthening harmony and cohesion in multicultural societies.
